El Quenpo sits in a Spanish style bungalow in Espernaza on the side of the road overlooking the bay and surrounded by beautiful mature trees. This locally sourced restaurant is very casual but chic and offers fantastic food and service! I would call it the grand dame of Vieques.
Even though there is no outdoor seating there is a beautiful breeze coming in from the bay and the windows open to the grounds. The service was top notch but the food is the main star at El Quenpo.
We sampled many of the items on the eclectic menu and were blown away by the freshness and preparation. As for the appetizers from the house made sushi, ceviche and fish chowders you can’t go wrong! Then there are the main courses that we tried that consisted of grilled Caribbean Lobster, seared fresh tuna and local catch of the day. The preparation was innovative as for the tastes they are a mix of international and Puerto Rican favors. Of course we topped off our meal with flan which is my all-time favorite. There is nothing like a creamy homemade flan. My taste buds were sizzling at the end of this meal because all the different flavors incorporated in all the foods are amazing.
The ambience is very comfortable with a chic Island flare and perfect for a friends gathering as well as a romantic celebration. I would definitely return as I had a wonderful dining experience that added pleasure to my stay at Vieques.
