I usually attend an annual conference each December for the United States Tour Operators Association (USTOA) we provide visa and passport processing for the tour operators attending. It usually consists of meetings and hosting a function. This year I decided with my business partner Steven that instead of giving out some random gifts we would make a donation in honor of each person sitting at our table. We researched different international relief organizations and decided to go with the International Rescue Committee. We liked how we could donate to specific projects like solar lights that could provide light at night to read, cook or just walk. Then there is selected medical attention for one year for a small child or blankets for emergency rescues.
There has been so much turmoil this year and so many people being displaced we thought it necessary to give back. We know everyone seating at our table had everything they needed and we were right, they appreciated our small gesture of kindness. I do believe that individuals can make a difference. Whatever your believes or politics it is always fashionable to assist those less fortunate than ourselves.
As far as Steven and I are concerned it is best that we show that a business can care and be benevolent while conducting business. As far as I am concerned the holidays are about giving, sharing and honoring those that are less fortunate than us and for whatever reason are having a difficult year!
In my opinion compassion is always en trend and in vogue to mater what time of the year.
