Getting outside the city is always a great idea for a change of scenery. I was recently at the Nemacolin resort in the Laurel Highlands of Pennsylvania for a corporate retreat. My stay gave me the opportunity to try the different restaurants on property. I am always obsessed about exploring and learning about a new location, especially one that is situated in such a majestic piece of nature.
What I loved was the fact that the restaurants were spread out on the property. Barratolo is a charming Italian standalone dining venue with indoor and outdoor seating overlooking the luscious grounds. The ambiance is casual and inviting and the outdoor seating was very peaceful.
Barratolo serves house made Italian fare with an assortment of wood fired pizzas, homemade pastas, an assortment of appetizers like burrata, seasonal fresh salads and fried zucchini.
Every item we tasted was fresh, delicious and beautifully presented, made to order with the option of specifying any changes you would like. The crust on the margarita pizza is thin crust with fresh basil and fresh cheese.
The pastas were tender, light and the sauce was not filling. The chicken parmesan is tender and cooked just right with a side of fresh linguine and tomato basil sauce.
There is also a nice list of Italian wines and sparkling versions in addition to a full bar. We were so full we didn’t have room for dessert but that gives me another reason to return!
