Visiting Alaska was a great adventure. The stunning natural landscapes took my breath away. I felt like I had left the US even though I was visiting one of the most beautiful states I had ever been to.
Alaska is a way of life and that comes through in the cuisine. The most fresh and delicious seafood I have ever eaten. The freshly caught salmon and halibut were in season and delectable.
When we arrived in Ketchikan after a long flight, we were eager to try local seafood. We walked from our lodge to the downtown waterfront to find the Alaska Fish House. A casual eatery right on the water with indoor and outdoor seating looking over majestic scenery. When we arrived, the weather was unseasonably warm with bright sunshine. We took advantage of the magnificent weather to sit outside and be spellbound by the view.
You order from the menu, pay and the food is brought to your table. We had the salmon & halibut tacos and an order of the fried halibut with fresh cut French fries. Every item was so fresh and tasty. After eating this seafood, I really do not know how I am going to eat my local seafood any longer.
The Alaska Fish House is the restaurant arm of Baranof fishing so the fish that is served is fresh caught right in front of you. You can see the fishing vessels going in and out outside the restaurant.
It can get terribly busy, so we were extremely fortunate to go later in the afternoon when the large cruise ships had left. We got to experience the food and view in a most tranquil environment.
