I was recently in London for business and had the pleasure of having afternoon tea at the new Jean-Georges at The Connaught.
The Connaught is a luxury hotel in the Mayfair section of London that is known to be a classic but infusing the modern flair of master chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten in his namesake restaurant makes it even more special. The mix of classic and modern is riveting!
The afternoon tea is served in the glass rotunda overlooking the square and Jean Georges’s décor is in shades of grey which make it soothing and relaxing not taking away from the nature outside. The interior with the muted colors doesn’t distract from the exterior with the Zen fountain and manicured flowers.
The afternoon tea is delicious to eat and stunning to gaze at. One has the choice of the afternoon tea with or without champagne. The presentation is so special and the attention to details is visible throughout the tea service.
There is a choice of teas and the sandwiches, pastries and scones are brought out per the description on the menu. First the tea sandwiches are brought which are cucumber, salmon, egg, cheese and ham each containing a lovely sauce. Then a lovely tray of pastries which includes chocolate and other flavors and scones are brought with cream and jam. Tea service is continual throughout.
The service is exceptional, not overbearing but just right to make one feel at home and comfortable. I had the pleasure of meeting the executive chef at Jean-Georges that made all this marvelous tea service possible. Overall it was a very memorable experience and look forward to returning for lunch or dinner since the restaurant is open all day.
