I am excited but the same time apprehensive to share my take on the Makoto restaurant situated at the BAL Harbour shops in Florida. Excited because I want to share my passion for this venue but apprehensive because I do not want it to become overrun and lose its gem like quality. When you think mall dining fine dining usually doesn’t usually come to mind.
Makoto is an exception! I am fascinated by this venue started by Chef Makoto Okuwa for its eclectic and modern take on Japanese cuisine. I was stunned by the selection of tastes that I savored. The food is elegant; a combination of varied tastes and the presentation is exquisite.
The décor is serene dimly lit with a brownish décor palette. The outdoor seating if Florida weather permits is quiet at the corner of the mall with exotic foliage.
The selections of items I tasted were outlandish! Whether I tried the chicken or vegetable robata grilled over Japanese charcoal, the rock shrimp tempura, the toro tartare or the sushi it was all a feast for my senses. The combination of flavors is mind blowing. I truly cannot wait to return as I am excited about uncovering new items.
