What I adore about international travel is exploring and finding local designers and artists that might not be available in the US. On a recent trip to Bogota, Colombia I came across the knitwear brand of Pepa Pombo, a Colombian ready to wear brand founded by Pepa Pombo in 1978. In 2002 her daughter Monica Holguin took over as creative director and the business is thriving!
The knitwear is amazing with beautiful colors, patterns and designs. It is sophisticated but modern and wearable. Knitwear is so functional for travel because it doesn’t wrinkle, and I can inter-change the pieces with items I already have. The quality is just so fine and the craftsmanship impeccable.
I am enamored with the skirts, pants and tops. You can either wear them as a set or separately. In Bogota the prices are affordable for the quality and design. The Pepa Pombo store in Zona Rosa in Bogota is a must visit.
Pepa Pombo had found a following with international clientele but unfortunately, they don’t have an online presence where you can buy the pieces directly from them. They are available in Mexico and Guatemala and a host of countries around the world. I know that if I return to Bogota I will stock up on some of their beautiful and innovative designs. I am fortunate to have found this designer and look forward to wearing my pieces.
