I adore strolling and exploring Souq’s and Bazaars while traveling in the Middle East. Walking down the alleyways and finding great finds is exotic and fun. It takes me to another level and I feel like I have stepped back in time and I am a part of the traditional history of that country. The Souq’s and bazaars are precursors to today’s western Malls.
Soul Waqif located in Doha, Qatar is a fantastic traditional market selling clothes, spices, handicrafts, local perfumes, jewelry and local delicacies. There is a special ambience to the Souq that allows one to explore the culture of Qatar.
In the afternoons there is traditional music, art and an array of cultural exhibits to partake and enjoy. Once I have exhausted my Souq exploration I can take a break by visiting one of the many restaurants and cafes located within the Souq. I can sip a tea, have a traditional meal or a snack.
There is an assortment of culinary choices that allows one to reflect and relax. Overall, the Souq Waqif is a wonderful venue to learn about the traditional culture, arts and commerce in Doha.
