I love to explore and find dining venues that are frequented by locals. To emerge myself in a culture allows me to truly understand a country I am visiting. I try to find restaurants that are either run by local chefs or have an interesting ambience.
Sylvestre Amador Mexicano is in Polanco Mexico City and housed in a beautiful townhouse on a quaint side street. The décor is striking with multi levels and rooms that each have their own unique ambiance. When you enter, you feel like you are in a glamourous home with a large crystal chandelier hanging from the two-story ceiling rather than in a restaurant. Sylvestre seems more like a beautifully appointed home than a restaurant making one feel comfortable the moment one enters.
The food is delicious with a large selection of Mexican, Argentinian and other food choices. We had the grilled tuna and an assortment of gourmet tacos. The guacamole was to die for as was the mushroom soup. An extensive wine and tequila list for those that want to savor the libations. We had no room for dessert but the selection looked tantalizing!
The service was so attentive and even though we don’t speak Spanish we could communicate and get our point across. I adore Mexico because it is such an inviting country and with Mexico City one is in store for a cultural blast!
Sylvestre is a microcosm of all this is fantastic about Mexico City, a beautiful restaurant with delicious food and wonderful service.
