Visiting Alaska was a magical and soothing experience for me. It brought me closer to nature and to the history of the region, which is so impressive. We left Juneau by seaplane to explore and have lunch at the Taku Glacier Lodge built in 1923.

Located in the majestic Tongass Nation Forest, on the Taku River and overlooking the Glacier, the lodge is in a surreal location. You can only get to the lodge by seaplane or boat. From Juneau going over the glaciers to get to the lodge was a thrilling experience. Landing by seaplane at the lodge I was mesmerized by the stunning nature all around me. Like I was on a movie set because every turn brought nature at its finest.

As we headed up to the main lodge we had the river in front of us, the glacier to the right and the mountains and forest all around us. Words or photos cannot do justice to the natural beauty. It must be an in-person experience to take it all in.

We wandered around the grounds, then had a home cooked salmon lunch consisting of freshly caught salmon grilled over an open fire, coleslaw, fresh baked biscuits and bread, fruit compote and ginger cookies for dessert. All the drinks were served with ice from the glacier which was very authentic.

After lunch we were able to take a nature tour, wander around the property and trails by ourselves being cautious of the wildlife or just get a libation and sit, relax, and reflect while looking out onto the nature. When it was time to return the seaplane came back to get our group and we had a divine view of the glaciers on our way back to Juneau.
