The Unconventional Diner located in the Shaw neighborhood of Washington, DC is a real find! The selection of items for breakfast, lunch and dinner are delicious and the menu is so varied. All items freshly made on the premises for one to savor. I love to support local businesses so that local culinary talent can thrive.
I have been there for brunch, lunch and dinner and each time the food exceeded my expectations, especially for a diner! It’s comfort food with its own gourmet flair.
For breakfast I had the avocado toast with egg confit, waffles, various egg dishes and the Lucius French fries with the “sexy sauce”. The french fries are just heavenly and my demise. I can’t go to the Unconventional Diner without ordering the fries.
For dinner I have had the miso glazed salmon, the mac and cheese and the chicken cutlet parmesan which is a different take on the traditional chicken parmesan. The mac and cheese is rich and enough to share as a side dish for several people.
For dessert I had to try the moist and rich chocolate cake. I must state that breakfast is my favorite meal as they do it so different and well. It is comfort food at its best, really tasteful and creative!
I adore that Washington, DC has gotten a great & creative unconventional diner that one can grab a meal anytime of the day or night!
